AI is the Lazy Designer’s Way.
AI is fucking lazy - do you agree?
There’s more and more AI content out there and you just have to go on Pinterest to see the feed being clogged by artists and designers passing themselves off as creatives to see how frustrating it is.
Every time I see a cool painting I have to do a double take to make sure it’s not just a piece of garbage a computer synthesized.
Suddenly anyone with a prompt can create music, a logo or a digital illustration.
I even saw recently a friend of a friend posting an entire ‘musical project’ entirely made with AI (yes it was cringeworthy).
These people are not artists, designers or musicians.
They’re hacks.
They devalue all the work we’ve done to build out skill sets and create work for our clients that is well thought out, considered and fit for purpose.
Their excuse is ‘all artists steal’ - but it’s a lame one.
The thing is though, the joke is on them.
Because what they don’t get is that the pleasure of creating is 99% the struggle of learning and getting to the point where you can create something you’re proud of just because of how much you had to go through to get there.
The point where you go - I’m stoked on what I’ve made because it lives up to the idea I had in my head.
They’re missing out.
It’s 100% wrong that you can type in “imagine a modern basquiat painting with skulls and flowers” and it will create an image for you that you can sell on etsy as an art print.
Being transparent -
I use the odd AI image internally for course graphics.
I use Chat GPT to give me ideas for content - but then I do the writing.
I use it to find trending topics for content.
AI could and should be used to enhance the work you do not replace it.
It’s not something to be sold to clients as your creative output.
If you’re using AI, it’s AI - admit it - it’s not yours.
AI is not going away, but now it’s not if we use it, but how we use it.
