Why I finally got my hand tattooed…
Last week I ticked something that’s been on my bucket list now for about 20 years.
Might seem trivial to some but to me it was a big thing and for me it really brought me back to why I started pitchr.
Last week I got my hand tattooed, and here’s why that’s different to most other tattoos.
For one, you can’t easily hide it, like arms, backs, legs - all can be hidden away when you go to work.
There’s a reason they call hand tattoos job stoppers.
(Tattooists still ask you - are you secure in your job? Before they tattoo your hands)
There’s also a reason that most good tattooists with respect to the tradition of the craft won’t tattoo someone's hand (or neck or face) until they’ve gotten a lot more work done, they’re committed to it.
Things have changed a lot in 20 years, but something that was drilled into me young was that tattoos make you look rough.
People will judge you on them.
People might be put off by the fact you have them visible on your body.
Maybe that’s not so much the case in 2025, but for me 20 or even 10 years ago, it was a big deal.
Because I could never have had this done when I was a corporate sales trainer, when I had the idea that it would limit my job opportunities.
When I had to wear a suit, and look a certain way for clients.
And I always wanted to have a business or a situation where I could get my hands done and be secure that it wouldn’t affect my life (read JOB).
So for me getting my hand done told me what I’ve always known.
That pitchr is my path, that working for myself is something I’ll do until the day I retire.
It told me that I’m going all in on who I am as a coach and mentor and for every person that might turn off, it will attract someone who is down with what I do and how I do it.
And truthfully, that’s how it should be in your business, as a creative business owner you get to run your own life.
You get to decide your own fate.
Whether that's hand tattoos or only working 3 days a week, or not working for anything less than $2k.
It’s your life and you only have one, don’t compromise for anyone.
